DECODING LABELS

Taking care of your clothes means giving them a second life every day. To preserve the softness of a knit or the vibrancy of a print, the care label is your best ally.

Balzac Paris' advice: Don't cut it off! It holds the secrets to the longevity of your favorite piece. If the pictograms sometimes seem mysterious to you, here is our guide to easily decipher them.

Balzac Paris' commitment: A well-maintained garment is a lasting garment. By following these few symbols, you join us in promoting more sustainable and responsible fashion.

1. WASHING

This is the symbol you will encounter most often. Represented by a small tub (the vat), it shows you what to do.

  • WASH AT 30 °C DELICATE

The number indicates the maximum temperature. The line under the tub is essential: it indicates a delicate cycle. Our recommendation? A gentle spin, limited to 600 rpm.

  • HAND WASH

If a hand appears, the machine is out of the question. Use lukewarm water and, above all, do not wring the item to dry it. Gently press it between two towels.

  • DO NOT WASH

If the bin is crossed out, then the water is not recommended. In this case, refer to the dry cleaning symbol (the circle).

  • Crossed-out triangle: This means that bleaching (chlorine, bleach) is strictly forbidden. It risks irreversibly altering the fibres and colours.

  • TUMBLE DRYING (Tumble Dryer)

In our experience, the tumble dryer is almost always out. Tumble drying is often too harsh: it can shrink or yellow fabrics. Plus, air drying is much gentler on the planet (and on your wallet!).

  • DRY FLAT

This symbol (a square with a horizontal line) is common on our knitwear. It prevents the weight of the water from deforming the garment. The trick? Lay your item flat on a dry towel, which is then placed on your drying rack.

  • IRON AT 110°C MAXIMUM

This is the most common recommendation at Balzac Paris. Our natural materials prefer gentleness. Ironing at a moderate temperature, often on the reverse side, is enough to restore your garment's shape.

  • DO NOT IRON

Ironing is forbidden. Don't panic: these fabrics usually regain their beautiful drape naturally after drying on a hanger.

  • DRY CLEANING ALLOWED

It symbolizes dry cleaning. The letters inside are valuable indications for your trusted dry cleaner to choose the right solvent.

  • DO NOT DRY CLEAN

Dry cleaning is prohibited. This is often the case for our delicate prints, which prefer a very gentle hand wash to maintain their brilliance.
