Balzac Paris is B Corp certified, achieving an overall score of 96.6 points. But what exactly does this mean?

B Corp is a globally recognised accreditation awarded to businesses that balance profit with a positive impact on society and the environment. Issued by B Lab, this certification is granted following a rigorous assessment process.

To qualify, a company must complete the BIA (Business Impact Assessment), comprising 220 questions based on five pillars, and achieve a minimum score of 80 points after undergoing an in-depth audit.

Impact Business Models, or IBMs, are strategies specifically designed to generate tangible benefits for one or more stakeholders. For Balzac Paris, three key IBMs were instrumental in securing the B Corp label:

We became a mission-driven company in April 2022;

We prioritise resource preservation through the use of recycled or sustainably sourced materials;

We actively reduce toxins via certifications such as GOTS for organic cotton.

This certification is more than just a label—it’s a testament to our dedication to creating a more responsible fashion industry. It’s not about being the best company in the world, but about being the best company for the world.

The 5 BCorp pillars

1. Governance - Mission-Driven Company

This pillar assesses Balzac Paris' commitment to its structure and operations. For nearly ten years, we have been working to transform the fashion industry with a responsible approach. As a mission-driven company, we pursue social and environmental goals embodied in our purpose: "Writing together a world where the desirable is sustainable, and the sustainable is desirable," driven by transmission, ethics, and respect for the environment.

2. Workers - Life at Balzac Paris

This pillar evaluates Balzac Paris' actions to ensure the well-being, safety, and professional development of its employees, while promoting inclusive models. Rooted in a familial spirit, collective work, sharing, and solidarity are at the heart of our regular activities. Inclusion is essential, with initiatives such as DuoDays and the Disability Awareness Workshop. Lastly, our strategic departments, mostly led by women, demonstrate our commitment to diversity and talent development.

3. Community - Building Trust With Stakeholders

This pillar evaluates Balzac Paris' impact on communities, emphasizing inclusion, local development, and responsible practices such as fair trade. Our carefully selected suppliers ensure traceable and ethical fashion through a code of conduct and regular audits. We are also founding members of the Collectif Tricolor, dedicated to promoting the French wool industry. Finally, our T.P.R. (Toujours plus responsable*) actions through the ENSEMBLE project support causes close to our hearts, such as ocean protection, upcycling, and solidarity with the most vulnerable.

4. Environment - Reducing the Impact of Our Collections

This pillar evaluates Balzac Paris' impact on the planet, emphasizing sustainable resource management and innovative ecological solutions. We primarily use recycled and sustainable materials—98% of our cotton comes from organic or recycled sources—and prioritize local production, with 92% of our products made in the EU. Our demanding certifications, such as GOTS, ensure limited use of toxic substances and reflect our commitment to more responsible fashion. In 2023, we increased the use of recycled materials by a factor of 8 and reduced our carbon footprint by 16% compared to 2022.

5. Customers - The Balzac Paris Customer Experience

This pillar measures how Balzac Paris ensures product quality, protects personal data, and raises awareness among its customers about social and societal issues. The 4.6/5 score on Trustpilot reflects the trust our ambassadors place in us. Our attentive and, of course, iconic customer service supports every client from fitting to purchase and beyond, with services such as repairs. Our team is always ready to listen and find tailored solutions to meet each customer's needs and requests.

And tomorrow?

The Environment

We remain committed to increasing the proportion of recycled raw materials and GOTS-certified products in our collections.

Additionally, compliance visits will be conducted at all active manufacturing sites in 2025.

Employees

We aim to amplify initiatives that raise awareness about disability in the workplace.

In 2025, a Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE) programme will be implemented to support reintegration at Balzac Paris.

Every team member will undergo training on textile value chains via the Fresque du Textile, fostering an understanding of the environmental and social challenges within the industry.

The Solidarity Ecosystem:

We will continue our solidarity actions, committing to two initiatives annually.

The Terraterre project, which contributes to carbon neutrality, remains a key focus.
