At Balzac Paris, we firmly believe that a great story can only be told with complete transparency . That's why we are proud to be among the first French brands to display the Environmental Cost of our products.

In a world where consumers aspire to greater sustainability, but where mistrust can still exist, our mission is to provide you with reliable and measurable benchmarks. The environmental cost of textiles allows you to assess the overall impact of a garment throughout its entire lifecycle. Displaying this information is voluntary for brands that wish to inform their customers, but it becomes mandatory when other environmental indicators are also presented.

The Environmental Cost: What is it?

This score applies exclusively to textile clothing. Shoes, leather goods, household linen, as well as leather and fur clothing are not included in this scope.

Consumers can find this environmental cost both online, directly on several of our product pages via the traceability tab of the site , and in store thanks to the labels equipped with Fairly Made QR codes .

The scoring system was designed to be intuitive. The overall environmental cost measures the garment's total impact, comparable to a product's price tag. A second indicator, calculated per 100 grams, allows for comparison between items, similar to a price per weight. The higher the number, the greater the garment's environmental impact.

The Environmental Cost: An Act of Transparency

The Environmental Cost is a score, displayed on the product, which clearly and legibly measures the total ecological impact of a garment , from its manufacture to its end of life.

What does this change for you?

  • An informed choice: Each score we display offers you simple and readable information to compare and understand the real impact of your purchase .
  • The complete life cycle: Our display is not limited to the material; it takes into account the environmental impact over the entire life cycle of the item (from raw material to end of life), including criteria specific to textiles, such as the risks associated with microplastics.
  • A total commitment: This approach prepares us for future regulations , particularly the upcoming Digital Product Passport, where traceability will be paramount. By scanning a simple QR code, you will know the origin of the materials, the production locations, and the measured impact.
