• Organic cotton jeans, GOTS certified
Organic cotton represents only 1% of the textile market . Yet in 2015, growing organic cotton saved 218 billion liters of water, 288 million kilowatts of energy and 92 million kg of CO2...
That's why Balzac Paris jeans are made of organic cotton, and labeled GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) ! What does that mean ? This label certifies optimal control of the production chain according to strict criteria (both environmental and social) as well as the traceability of all textiles (made from at least 70% certified organic and natural fibers).
• Jeans without rivets, therefore more easily recyclable
Rivets, those little metal pieces you find at the corners of the pockets of classic jeans , were used at the time to reinforce certain seams so that the workers did not tear them. Today, they mainly have a decorative function!
That's why Balzac Paris jeans are without rivets. Indeed, this greatly facilitates textile recycling : no more wasted time unhooking the rivets, and no more waste of material by cutting the jeans all around.
• Jeans washed with ozone, without chemical treatment
Some traditional washing techniques consume a lot of water, energy and chemicals. The so-called “sandblasting” technique turned out to be very dangerous for the workers' health.
This is why Balzac Paris jeans are bleached with ozone, thus reducing water consumption by 95%, energy by 60% and reducing the use of chemical products by 80%. A clear improvement for the environment but also for the manufacturers and their working conditions.
• Jeans made near us
70% of global denim production capacity is located in Asia. Before arriving in our closets, a pair of classic jeans can then cover almost... 65,000 kilometres!
This is why Balzac Paris jeans are made near us: the fabrics come from a Turkish workshop and the assembly is carried out in a Tunisian workshop. Both are labeled GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), which guarantees optimal control of the production chain according to strict criteria (both environmental and social). This proximity allows us to follow our production chain closely, but also to easily go on site. And being closer to our workshops also means being closer… to people!
Today, our jeans are backed by the Ellen McArthur Foundation , which advocates for the circular economy and seeks to transform the traditional linear “Extract, Make, Discard” model of development into a circular model to reuse and recycle materials for their give a second life.
So, which of our eco-responsible jeans are you going to want to adopt?
