Cyrielle and Julien, what is your story, why Marrakech?
We both fell in love with Morocco in 2010, its landscapes and its light. Marrakech was like magic and its energy immediately fascinated us. After having worked for more than 10 years in the world of fashion, as a model or behind the creative forces at L'Eclaireur and Ateliers Ruby, we were both looking for a more authentic life. Driven by a quest for freedom, we naturally turned to Marrakech where we found refuge and inspiration.
What is the history of Riad Jardin Secret? How did you transform it?
We discovered this house dating from the end of the 16th century in the medina of Marrakech, 3 years ago. The riad does not bear its name by chance... Its address is whispered among insiders, like a secret that we wish to preserve. To access it, you have to be in on the secret... The elders have whispered the legend of the "Secret Garden" to us... Two riads were built side by side, almost identically, to house the loves of a rich Marrakech. One of his wives was his favourite. He dedicated this case to her, made to hide the immense love he had for her.
Today the state of mind there is simple, the riad is an “anti-modern” place and rich in history. A place of inspiration, exchanges and relaxation. We have juxtaposed the eras in order to better reveal them. Black and white prints and handicrafts set the tone. The furniture with simple and organic lines and the careful placement of each object have been defined in order to preserve the authenticity of Riad Jardin Secret, the mystery of its past and the artistic personality of its present.
Your Riad is a real haven of peace that inspires the sweetness of life and serenity... What is your secret?
Our Riad was first of all our personal house, the secret is certainly the alchemy of our two personalities, both sober and very meticulous. The Riad Jardin Secret is a confidential guest house, a showroom of our ideas but also a gallery, because we receive artists in residence there. It is a place of life and experimentation. Music is also a big part of it.
What are the decorative biases for this place?
We advocate sincerity and simplicity through the choice of natural materials and without pretense. We like to reconcile the raw elements of nature in a sophisticated environment with authentic materials and natural finishes, highlighted by a studied and timeless color palette. We have fun mixing vintage elements with a touch of exoticism. We also sometimes design our own furniture and call on the know-how of craftsmen to make it.

The unmissable Mustafa Blaoui and his Ali Baba cave which is two minutes from the Riad. The Moroccans, for their organic and natural cosmetics. L'Art du Bain, specialized in soaps screen-printed with donkey's milk. The African souk behind Place Jemaa el Fnaa. Marrakshi Life and its timeless hand-woven wardrobe. Chabichic which offers pottery made by local artisans.

We are always looking for new projects!
We have opened a vegetarian restaurant, the Pink Rooftop, where we offer gourmet and healthy cuisine from local organic farming. The opening of our Rigotang creative studio, combining our passions for film photography and interior design. We have just renovated a “Dar”, a private mansion where we have been living for a short time and which, according to legend, was Yves Saint Laurent's bachelor pad. We are waiting for the project of our life, the arrival of our first baby. So at the moment we are very busy decorating her room!
