I was talking to a friend about clothing—about what we say about ourselves through what we wear.

It’s springtime, the season of red carpets and festivals.

And this friend, speaking of an artist in a loose T-shirt and trousers, said to me:

“I like her. She doesn’t care about clothes, she just showed up like that. She’s above all those superficial concerns.”

And I replied that that was precisely the point—the message behind her outfit. That whatever it was, it was saying something. She was playing.

Even when we think we’re throwing something on “just like that,” that just like that is a choice. Maybe we choose to play the game—or not—but either way, we’re saying something.

And playing—that’s exactly what Balzac inspires in me.

We play with mix and match patterns, with a men’s shirt we could make formal, but instead we choose to free it from its buttons, wear it open, all the way down—revealing a deep, sensual neckline;

We play with stripes, with colours we blend together for a boyish, bold and mischievous look; with a burning red worn head-to-toe or as an accent, just enough to spice up a daily silhouette.

We play with bows—sometimes theatrical, sometimes demure—set atop signature leopard or delicate lace.

And whatever the mood, we dip into the Balzac Paris wardrobe, basket in hand or over the shoulder, and we express our temperament—whether enduring or fleeting—with style.

SUMMER’S MOST-LOVED ITEMS

Some summer days stretch late into the night—seamless moments where we move from the beach straight into celebration. To accompany these sun-drenched hours, Balzac Paris presents a selection of standout pieces that define the spirit of the season.

The Tosca dress, crafted in openwork ecru guipure, plays the romantic card, flattering the silhouette with its voluminous design and wrap cut.

For a more spontaneous feel, the Julietta romper is the obvious choice—capturing the very essence of summer. With its cinched waist and subtly puffed sleeves, it creates a feminine look, perfect both after the beach and well into the evening, elevated by the softness of its certified TENCEL™ fabric.

The Cosi top and Donata skirt, meanwhile, explore a bold, sun-kissed aesthetic: a boxy, graphic top paired with a breezy slit skirt that offers a subtle glimpse of the leg.

Finally, the Evelina dress embodies pure elegance. Its fluid drape and graceful length conceal an irresistible detail—a plunging open back, revealed little by little as the day fades into night.

Your summer favorites are waiting for you at Balzac Paris.

  • Recette by Kaitlyn - Lemon curd et cherry Pavlova

    Meringues:

    • 120g egg white
    • 200g sugar
    • 1 spoon white vinegar

    Heat your oven to 150°C.

Add the egg whites to the bowl of a food processor. Start mixing slowly, then gradually increase the speed to medium-high, while adding the sugar a little at a time. Process until the whites form stiff peaks and all the sugar is incorporated. Pour the meringue into a piping bag fitted with the tip of your choice. Form 5 nests with the meringue on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment, leaving a small dam for the filling. Bake immediately, lowering the temperature to 120°C once the meringues are in the oven. Bake for around 45 minutes, until the meringues are dry and firm to the touch. Turn off the oven and leave the pavlovas to cool for 1 h 30, then remove from the oven and cool completely to room temperature.

    Lemon curd:

    • 3 eggs
    • Zest of one lemon
    • Juice of two lemons
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 90g butter

Beat the eggs in a small saucepan until blended. Stir in lemon zest, juice and sugar. Whisk over medium heat, scraping down the sides and bottom of the pan.

When the mixture heats up, add a few cubes of butter and let them melt. Never stop whisking! To keep the temperature of the mixture low, add more butter as soon as the butter melts and you see it heating up. When the curd thickens, remove from the heat and gently strain the mixture through a sieve.

Prepare your cherries and, just before serving, whip the cream until soft peaks form.

Assemble the pavlovas. Add one or two spoonfuls of custard to the center of your meringues, then top with whipped cream and cherries. Enjoy immediately. Enjoy!

Spring is coming to an end, the blazing heat over the city accompanies us into summer.

These last few weeks of in-between time: light dresses in the open-plan hallways, bare feet in the office, sunny stripes in the subway corridors. Our wardrobe is already on vacation, as always, long before we are.

Isn't that what we prefer? This slight shift, this precious anachronism. In a few weeks, we might be at the beach, with our back-to-school dreams already in the back of our minds.

As a teenager, on my grandparents' terrace, I imagined all the possibilities life would offer me if I could get THIS schoolbag, this jacket, and these low-rise pants by September. Back then, it was by leafing through a mail-order catalog. And all summer long, I fantasized about this "back-to-school me."

It's time to enjoy our beautiful dresses, our shorts and baskets in light blouses, before looking out of the corner of our eye, settled on a corner of a towel, at the Balzac Paris e-shop which will accompany us with sweetness and mischief towards the start of the school year.

It's time to enjoy our beautiful dresses, our shorts and light blouses accompanied by baskets; before looking out of the corner of our eye, sitting on a corner of a towel, at the zebra and leopard prints that will dress our Léonor and Jade blouses, the autumn-colored flared pants; and perhaps dreaming of a little pink, mustard and gray striped cardigan on the Balzac Paris e-shop that will accompany us with softness and mischief towards the start of the school year.
