BALZAC PARIS SECOND LIFE

Chrysoline de Gastines tells you...

The garment that pollutes the least is the one that already exists.

Balzac Paris pieces are created to last and to live more than one life. Thanks to the second hand, encourage the circular economy, allow your pieces to live as long as possible and to be passed on from woman to woman, and from generation to generation.

Chrysoline de Gastines, co-founder of Balzac Paris, tells you about our commitment to the second hand:

“TODAY, THE SECOND-HAND SECTOR IS ESTIMATED AT BETWEEN 25 AND 34 BILLION EUROS, OR 2% OF THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF FASHION AND LUXURY. WITH BALZAC PARIS, WE REALLY WANTED TO BE PART OF THIS CHANGE. »

Hello Chrysoline, why does it make sense for Balzac Paris to invest in second-hand?

GASTINES CHRYSOLINE

At Balzac Paris, it really made sense to launch ourselves into the second-hand market because we like to say that Balzac Paris istomorrow's fashion today! We estimate that by 2028 second hand will have become even more important than fast fashion in the fashion market. We therefore thought that it was necessary to join today in this dynamic of circular economy which we find very coherent with our approach TPR (Always More Responsible). Moreover, we have a real desire to support our customers in this new way of consuming and we like to tell ourselves that somewhere, this TPR (Always More Responsible) buying habit will be adopted thanks to, and with, Balzac Paris.

Why are Balzac Paris pieces particularly suitable for living several lives thanks to the second hand?

GASTINES CHRYSOLINE

The very first commitment we made when creating Balzac Paris was that our pieces be created to last. Responsible, durable and quality parts. It has therefore always been in our DNA that our pieces are made to be worn, to be loved, and then to be passed on, so that they live several lives. With them, we transmit our values and the quality of our know-how which are the soul of Balzac Paris.

All these commitments are part of the #RRRR dynamic (repair, reuse, recycle, reduce) that we follow and which encourages people to reduce their environmental impact and to include their actions in a more circular economy .

What is implemented today at Balzac Paris around the second hand?

GASTINES CHRYSOLINE

Today, the second-hand sector is estimated at between 25 and 34 billion euros, or 2% of the total weight of fashion and luxury. As I said, with Balzac Paris, we really wanted to be actors of this change. We are therefore very proud to have launched our second-hand platform almost a year ago. It allows our customers to return Balzac Pari s pieces that they no longer wear and to recover valid purchase vouchers on our e-shop in exchange. Furthermore, it also makes it possible to offer a different offer to customers who do not necessarily buy Balzac Paris but are interested in the second-hand sector for all that this entails: eco-responsible approach or low prices for example.

We have also opened a Second Life corner , on the same principle as the digital platform, within our Parisian address, 82 rue d'Hauteville in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

On the other hand, we set up Second Life Mondays at the Address showroom located at 2 cité d'Hauteville, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. They will take place on Monday October 24, Monday October 31 and Monday November 7 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and you will be able to find hundreds of second-hand pieces there with new arrivals every Monday.

Why do you think the hearts of customers have been booming for the second-hand market in recent years?

GASTINES CHRYSOLINE

I think customers are sensitive to second-hand because it's a buying habit that we've had for a long time in France. It's very cultural to go antiquing in a flea market, a clearance sale, a consignment store, or a thrift store : the French are already inclined to buy second-hand. This is also why it is quite natural for brands in France to include this second-hand logic in their business model .

And if I think specifically of our Balzac Paris customers, in reality their hearts go boom for our second hand offer because they know that our clothes are of high quality and that they last over time. It's inevitably tempting to hunt for second-hand goods from time to time at low prices but of equal quality.

Are you a second-hand clothes shopper yourself?

GASTINES CHRYSOLINE

Absolutely, I've always been a big second-hand buyer! Besides clothes, for example, my furniture is also second-hand. I also buy a lot of second-hand clothes for my children, which is why we immediately talked about opening our second-hand platform to our children 's collection as soon as it was launched. It really made sense!
